The Future of Energy Independence: Ukraine as Europe's Small Nuclear Hub

War as a Catalyst

The full-scale war has become not only the greatest test for Ukraine's power system, but also a catalyst for its transformation. With Europe moving away from Russian energy resources, Ukraine can become one of the key energy centres of the continent.

Small Modular Reactors

Ukraine has a chance to become the first country in Eastern Europe to deploy small modular reactors (SMRs) at scale and to begin exporting the corresponding technological solutions to the EU. This requires clear safety standards aligned with European ones and a long-term strategy for nuclear power plant development.

A Flexible Power System

The country's future power system should be built as a flexible model: nuclear generation becomes the base, while renewable sources, gas generation and energy storage provide balance and adaptability.
