About the company

ALPHA GAS LLC is a private Ukrainian producer of natural gas and gas condensate. Oleksandr Katsuba founded it in 2022 and owns it. Its main operations are in the Myrhorod district of the Poltava region, with another area in the Luhansk region.

The company develops fields, brings in new technology, upgrades infrastructure and sells its own gas to end consumers on the domestic market. Its stated goal is a modern, technological and independent gas industry that secures Ukraine’s energy security.

Licences and fields

Four special permits to produce gas and condensate. The largest by reserves is the Kaverdynske field, the largest by area the Yevsuh area.

2022–2023

Exploration and drilling

In 2022 the company commissioned, at its own expense, 3D seismic over 332.35 km²; specialised firms including Ukrgeofizyka did the work, and the drilling programme was built on the new geological models. The seismic cost UAH 272 million.

Then came three deep exploration wells in hard conditions, including directional ones with up to 1,102 m of displacement: No. 7 — 5,242 m (2022, producing), No. 8 — 5,850 m (2023, producing), No. 14 — 5,200 m (2023, abandoned for geological reasons). A sidetrack was drilled at well No. 1 of the Vakulivske field. Two new Kaverdynske wells went into trial operation. Ukrainian contractors, suppliers and manufacturers were brought in.

2023

Upgrade of the Kaverdynske gas treatment plant

In 2023 the company completed the reconstruction of its gas treatment plant, investing more than UAH 100 million. A new high-pressure low-temperature separation line handles 1 million m³ of gas a day; gas is metered ultrasonically, condensate and formation water by Coriolis meters; every process is automated and visible from the control room.

It built an 800 m³ tank farm (two 400 m³ tanks), a loading bay, a 12-line inlet manifold rated to 32 MPa, a pumping station with 14 dosing pumps and inhibitor tanks, new degassers and dehydrators. The service building got a second floor, a laboratory, training areas and a shelter for the staff — about UAH 25 million more.

Investment and taxes

In 2022–2024 the company invested more than UAH 1.5 billion (EUR 38.7 million) in exploration, drilling, infrastructure — pipelines, flowlines, power lines and roads — and upgrades. In 2023 alone it paid UAH 121.5 million in taxes and levies to state and local budgets and accrued more than UAH 200 million of VAT.

Although production in wartime has become riskier still, the company keeps to its programme: new wells on the key fields, more storage and transport infrastructure, and technology that raises the return of each well.

Position

Assessments, recommendations, vision

  1. The industry’s main internal problem is 200–300 dormant permits. “Use it or lose it”: if production has not started within three to five years, the area goes to auction automatically.
